Shipbuilding : Leonardo Da Vinci, its first journey to Norway 2021

The construction works are proceeding on time with the overall schedule and vessel hull is due to be completed in summer 2020

Prysmian Group’s new cable-laying vessel ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ is finalizing preparations for being towed from Vard Marine’s shipyard in Tulcea, Romania, to Norway for final outfitting work

Italy based world leading energy and telecom cable systems supplier Prysmian Group said, following the finalization of the hull, she will perform a sea-journey, from the Danube River and then through all across the Mediterranean and along the ocean shores of Portugal, Spain, and France up to its final destination at Vard’s shipyard in Brattvag, Norway, for fitting out and finishing, after one month of navigation.

Prysmian said, the construction works are proceeding on time with the overall schedule and vessel hull is due to be completed in summer 2020.

With a length of approximately 170 m and a breadth of about 34 m, Leonardo da Vinci is intended to be the most capable cable layer in the market and to offer enhanced project versatility thanks to advanced features like: deep water installation capabilities for depths of more than 3,000 m thanks also to a new generation cable technology armoured with lighter materials; maximum speed above 14 knots; 2 carousels of 7,000 and 10,000 tons, which ensure the highest carousel capacity in the market, enabling reduced transportation time from the factory to the site, thus improving overall project efficiency.

The new cable-layer is expected to be operational by the 2Q of 2021.

Last month, Prysmian awarded €270 M projects for the Crete – Attica submarine interconnection in Greece.

Also last month, Ailes Marines in charge of the development, construction, installation and operation of the offshore wind farm in the bay of Saint-Brieuc, has awarded Prysmian Group a contract worth of about €80 million to provide the submarine inter-array cable systems for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in France
