Security strike on GNV ships in Genoa

The confederal unions have proclaimed a 24-hour abstention from work on Monday. The company disputes and replies

The confederal unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti have proclaimed for Monday 3 October 24 hours of strike for all workers at the Grandi Navi Veloci terminal in Genoa, that is to say at Maritime Stations.

The trade unions in a note highlighted some critical aspects related to safety referring to an episode that took place Thursday evening: “We learned that on board the Allegra motor ship the workers found serious safety deficiencies and called the site Rls ( Workers’ representatives for safety, ed) and the competent bodies.

The latter have found anomalies and as far as we know they have reported to the ship command of discrepancies and deficiencies found on board ”.

With regard to the experimental theme of anchoring semi-trailers, it should be noted that this year the Cargo Securing Manuals of the ships, approved by all the competent authorities, both Italian and international, have been revised, which specify the new lashing conditions. The latter provide that, to anchor the semitrailers, special stands on board the ships must be used and not the legs of the semitrailer itself.

It is an international procedure currently applied to ro / ro ships – and progressively used also on the ships of the GNV fleet, starting from the summer – due to the fact that the legs of the semi-trailers, patented for parking on land, are not structured, like the deck of the ship, to withstand the accelerations and stresses to which the vessels are subjected in the ship.

In order to guarantee safe parking on board, the ships are therefore equipped with trestles and other patented devices for this purpose “.
