? More than half of the refugees have traveled to Poland, with Hungary and Moldova among other important destinations. The UNHCR said almost 50,000 refugees have gone to Russia.

? Russian forces have seized control of Kherson making it the first major Ukrainian city to be captured. Although yet to be confirmed by Ukraine’s military, the mayor of Kherson Igor Kolykhayev suggested that Putin’s troops had secured the southern port.

? Ukraine’s frontline cities continued to be attacked throughout the night, with the capital Kyiv hit by four huge explosions just before dawn.

? Russian forces are also assaulting the northeastern city of Kharkiv, and encircling the port city of Mariupol.

? On Wednesday, Russia for the first time acknowledged heavy casualties during the campaign, revealing 498 deaths and 1,597 injuries. Ukraine claims the figure is far higher.
