Ports : Pilbara Ports’ freight volume fell to nearly 60 million tonnes in August
Pilbara Ports Authority has delivered a total monthly throughput of 59.9 million tonnes (Mt) for August 2021.
This throughput was a one percent decrease compared to August 2020.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 44.7Mt, of which 43.9Mt was iron ore exports. This was a four percent decrease when compared to August 2020.
Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totaled 226,000 tonnes, an increase of 20 percent compared to August 2020.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 14.1Mt, a nine percent increase from August 2020.
Imports through the Port of Dampier totaled 108,000 tonnes, a decrease of three percent from August 2020.
Pilbara Ports Authority operates as a Western Australian Government Trading Enterprise and is governed under the Port Authorities Act 1999 WA (the Act).
Pilbara Ports Authority was established on 1 July 2014, as a result of the Ports Legislation Amendment Act 2014 consolidating seven of WA’s eight-port authorities into four new regional port authorities.
Pilbara Ports Authority was formed by the amalgamation of the former port authorities of Dampier Port Hedland.
Pilbara Ports Authority encompasses the:
- Port of Ashburton
- Port of Dampier
- Port of Port Hedland
- Port of Varanus Island
Pilbara Ports Authority will also oversee the operation of the following greenfield ports:
- Anketell
- Balla Balla
- Cape Preston East
- Cape Preston West
- Urala
Pilbara Ports Authority will also assume oversight of a number of Shipping and Pilotage Act 1967 (SPA) ports, including the ports of:
- Barrow Island
- Cape Preston
- Onslow
- Port Walcott
