Offshore : (NPD) has issued consent to Austrian oil ‘OMV’ for an appraisal well in the North Sea

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted OMV Norge AS a drilling permit for well 6506/11-12 S, with the prospect name ‘Hades’.

OMV recently received approval from Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), to use Island Innovator Rig to drill in this well in the Norwegian Sea.

OMV Norge AS will use Island Innovator on the two designated wells, 6506/11-12 S and 6506/11-12 A (sidetrack), located in the water depth of 433 meters in production license 644.

OMV holds a 30 % stake while its partners in the license are Equinor, DNO, and Spirit Energy which hold 40, 20, and 10 % respectively.

The area in this license consists of parts of blocks 6506/8, 6506/10 and 6506/11. The well will be drilled about 4 kilometers west of the Morvin field.

Production license 644 was awarded on 3 February 2012 (APA 2011). This is the second exploration well to be drilled in the license, according to NPD.

The Island Innovator is a 6th generation, 2012 built semi-submersible drilling, well intervention & completion-unit designed to operate in water depths up to 1200 meters. The unit is designed for NCS, Norwegian Continental Shelf and for worldwide harsh environments. Station keeping is maintained by an 8 line mooring system or by dynamic position mode maintained by 6 fixed pitch, variable speed thrusters (DP3).
