New BIMCO film puts spotlight on transparency and decarbonisation ” No Turning Back”

As pressure on industries, governments, and companies to decarbonize increases, so does the need for the shipping industry to inform the public and decision-makers and increase transparency about the industry’s efforts to decarbonize.

Earlier this year we launched two films, “Ships Make the World Go” and “Seafarers Deserve Support”, to highlight the plight of seafarers and the importance of shipping to world trade during the pandemic. The new film “No Turning Back” tackles the environmental impact of shipping and serves as a tool to help raise awareness, educate and increase the visibility of the industry’s work towards decarbonization. We hope that by telling our stories in this way we will demonstrate that the shipping industry understands the challenge and is committed to finding solutions.

Bimco chief disappointed by lack of support for stranded seafarers

Last week David Loosley, BIMCO Secretary-General and CEO, introduced a screening of the film to policymakers and industry players at the “Shaping the Future of Shipping” conference which ran alongside the COP26 in Glasgow. “No Turning Back” is not branded a “BIMCO film” and we are actively encouraging members to use and share the film, and our previous films, as widely as possible.

Over 90% of world trade is carried by ship, and around 1.7 million seafarers work to facilitate the way we live, making sure we get everything we need in our daily lives. They too deserve to go home safely after work. Governments need to recognise the important role that seafarers play in society. What if it all stopped? Seafarers Deserve Support
