MoU between Egypt and the Netherlands to establish and manage a logistics zone in the port of Alexandria

Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport witnessed the signing of,memorandum of understanding (MoU )regarding the establishment, equipment, management, exploitation, maintenance and re-delivery of an integrated logistics area with services for the handling and storage of clean dry bulk goods (grains) at birth 85 in the port of Alexandria, between the General Authority of Alexandria Port and the Egyptian-Dutch Alliance for Stevedoring. EDSCO, which is composed of the Dutch Vitra Company and the Egyptian Al-Fatah Company.

The minister emphasized that this signature for Berth 85 was established by an Egyptian company on Egyptian land in an Egyptian port with Egyptian funds and an Egyptian consultant, and that the coming period will witness the signing of the final contracts for the project,

Adding that Egypt does not sell its ports, but contracts with Egyptian operators (private sector) and the global private sector. Interested in cooperating with Egypt in the field of managing and operating terminals to transfer expertise and apply smart and green port method

The Minister of Transport added that this project aims to make optimal use of Berth 85, which is designated for the handling of grains and grains, in order to increase the capacity in Alexandria Port to keep pace with the growing demand for this type of goods, as it is one of the most important national strategic commodities, with a handling capacity of about 5 million tons annually, as the length of the berth reaches to 433 m and a floor area of 35 thousand m 2, and that the integrated logistics area will be implemented on berth 85/3 in accordance with the highest technological and environmental standards.

On the other hand the head of the Dutch company thanked the Egyptian Minister of Transport for this contract, stressing that his company is one of the largest international companies in the field of stevedoring and his great pleasure in cooperating with Alexandria Port in this large project, which is an important shift in the field of cooperation between the Dutch company and the Egyptian side.
