LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes arrive at Port of Newcastle around July/August

Port of Newcastle’s existing project cargo, general cargo and container handling capability will be further enhanced following a $28.4-million investment in two Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes and associated infrastructure at the Port’s versatile Mayfield 4 berth.

This investment is part of the Port’s assertive diversification agenda to realise the potential of the region’s international trade gateway. The investment is about improving efficiencies, growing diversified trade and creating better outcomes for current customers, as well as positioning the Port as a viable option to attract new customers, particularly in regional and rural NSW.

Port of Newcastle are firmly focused on maximising opportunities that will create a broad mix of trade opportunities to support local industry, boost jobs in addition to the 9000 positions the Port, directly and indirectly, supports now, and build a prosperous local, state and national economy.

brand new $28.4 million Liebherr Group LHM 550 mobile harbour cranes have left Rostock Port in Germany and are on their way to Port of Newcastle.

The arrival of the cranes will see the Port of Newcastle continue to diversify port operations, through cargo and container handling.

The vessel carrying the cranes has just passed through the Suez Canal and is currently in the Red Sea.

The 300th LHM 550 is loaded in Rostock’s city harbour for delivery to Gdansk.

The mobile harbour cranes are due for arrival around late July/ August 2022. After arrival, these important pieces of infrastructure will undergo a commissioning phase which includes rigorous testing.
