Rome/ Nova Agency

The fight against energy poverty in Italy, in particular by supporting religious bodies and non-profit organizations NGOs already involved in the paths of ecological transformation and which daily support families facing difficulties in the region, was the goal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed, today, Tuesday, in Milan, by the two companies “Enel”. and Fratelli Soleil, a not-for-profit consortium dealing with sustainability that third sector entities are committed to, Italian news agency Nova reported.

“Through this agreement, we want to contribute to the fight against energy poverty in our country, side by side with those who stand day by day side by side with the weakest,” commented Nicola Lancetta, Director of Enel Italy.

Distributed generation and energy efficiency makes it possible to obtain both economic benefits and environmental benefits, and is at the core of the new development and consumption model we want to spread with this agreement.”

“The MoU signed today stems from a common path that began within the framework of the Alliance against Energy Poverty, a topic that has long represented one of the major challenges at the national and European levels, and which the current historical stage has made, if possible, even more dramatic,” said Fabio Girosa, President of Fratelli Sole. .

He stressed that “it is necessary in a very short time to develop new ideas, concrete projects and unprecedented synergies to provide quick and effective answers to many of our fellow citizens who see their present and future in real danger.”

The MoU provides for a series of joint initiatives aimed at promoting the adoption of the sustainability model at various levels, including: measures to promote the creation of energy communities that bring together third sector organizations, such as parishes, religious associations and social cooperatives, allowing them to share energy produced from renewable sources, and the activity of Energy poverty mapping begins with a pilot project that extends to the entire national territory

The photovoltaic power facility is to be built on an area of approximately 130 hectares adjacent to the former ‘Galileo Ferraris’ power plant, and will consist of nearly 160,000 modules, with a capacity of 86 MW. A 25 MW electrochemical energy storage system will also be installed, which will help to ensure the proper functioning of the electricity system, also providing ancillary services to the grid. It will be one of the largest solar power plants in Northern Italy.

Once fully operational, it will be able to produce approximately 130 GWh each year, making it possible to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by about 56,000 tons and to cut down on gas consumption by 29 million cubic meters, replacing it with locally produced renewable energy.
