Incidents : Four kayakers got into trouble at sea

Four kayakers got into trouble at sea, including a 74-year-old man who capsized.

Coastguards and the RNLI were called to Ringstead Bay late yesterday afternoon.

Both Lulworth and Wyke coastguard rescue teams were tasked, as well as Weymouth RNLI inshore lifeboat.

The four kayakers were located at White Nothe.

One of the party, a 74-year-old man, had spent some time in the water after capsizing and despite a concerted effort failed to get back in his boat.

Weymouth’s inshore boat recovered all four people to the lifeboat and transferred them to Ringstead, requesting an ambulance meet them on arrival.

Paramedics gave the man the all clear and drove him to his nearby home.

A coastguard spokesman said: “This gentleman has been kayaking for years in the kayak he built himself and we wish him many more years paddling.
