Incidents : Cargo ship with a cargo of wheat sank in Greece waters, 16 crew rescued

General cargo ship SEA BIRD reportedly sank in Sea of Crete east of Peloponnese peninsula, Greece, early in the morning Aug 28. The ship was en route from Ukraine to Tunisia with 7,000 tons of wheat on board. Large-scale SAR was launched, all 16 Syrian crew were said to be rescued, safe.
The ship sank after the collision, no more details are given, but judging from ships positions and tracks in the area, SEA BIRD probably, collided with general cargo ship HAYA (IMO 9155420, dwt 5199), which is, as of 0620 UTC Aug 28, adrift north of alleged collision site. But as probably, HAYA being also a Lebanese ship, took part in SAR. SEA BIRD last AIS signal dates 0020 UTC Aug 28.
