Inauguration of the “Princess of the Sun”, the first cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas

The Italian company “Fincantieri” inaugurated today, Wednesday, the “Sun Princess” ship, the first cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas, out of a total of two built by the company for “Princess Cruises” in Monfalcone, according to the Italian news agency Nova.

The Sun Princess has a total weight of 175,500 tons and is the largest ship built in Italy to date, as well as the first ever LNG-powered cruise ship by Fincantieri, and the first dual-fuel ship powered mainly by LNG to join the fleet of ” Princess“.

LNG is the greenest technology in the marine industry and the cleanest fossil fuel in the world, which will significantly reduce air emissions and marine diesel use.

The “Sun Princess“, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2024, was launched from the “Safir” class, which includes another ship for delivery in 2025, each with a capacity of about 4,300 tourists, and their design is based on the design of the next generation platform.
