The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement today, “Within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its consular sector, to take care of Egyptians abroad, the Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Port Sudan, Sameh Farouk Shehata, followed up the deportation of eight seafarers

Two Egyptians from the crew of a ship that sank in the port of Suakin in the Sudanese Red Sea state, where the Egyptian seafarers lost all their belongings, including their passports and identification papers.

The statement added: “The consulate immediately issued documents to return to their homeland and end their travel procedures to Egypt after following up on their conditions and obtaining their financial dues from the ship-owning company, as well as coordinating with the Sudanese Maritime Ports Authority to end investigations into the shipwreck incident.”

It is noteworthy that last June, ship livestock of about 16,000 sheep on its way to Saudi Arabia sank on the night of Saturday, Sunday, off the coast of Sudan in the Red Sea.

AFP quoted an official at Suakin port as saying that “the ship Badr 1 was livestock 15,800 heads of sheep, which is more than its load,” sank in the early hours of the morning.

The official pointed out that the ship was operating with a maximum tonnage of nine thousand heads, and modifications were made to it to increase its tonnage, noting that “it is the first time that it carries more than 15 thousand heads, as it previously transported 12 thousand.”

Suakin was the main commercial port of Sudan before Port Sudan advanced to it. Plans have been drawn up for its redevelopment.
