Dutch freighter sailed straight onto Bornholm coast, Baltic sea

General cargo ship BEAUMAIDEN with a cargo of fertilizers ran aground some 300 meters off the western coast of Bornholm Island, Denmark, Baltic sea, at around 0100 UTC Oct 18, while en route from Antwerp to Estonia. From the looks of a track, the ship sailed straight towards the coast, she didn’t change the course when she should, most likely because the bridge watch fell asleep, it doesn’t look like there was some kind of mechanical failure taking the ship out of control. No breaches reported, no-spill. Refloating attempts are underway.

General Cargo BEAUMAIDEN is currently located at BALTIC – Baltic Sea at position 55° 8′ 53.124″ N, 14° 41′ 49.236″ E as reported by MarineTraffic Terrestrial Automatic Identification System on 2021-10-18 21:16 UTC (7 minutes ago) Marine Traffic reported
