Dutch freighter ordered to loop back and forth in North Atlantic, suspect in oil leak

General cargo ship ALASKABORG is suspect in an oil spill off the southern coast of Newfoundland on Feb 10, when the ship was passing Newfoundland en route from Baie Comeau Canada to Rotterdam, ETA Feb 19. Canadian authorities were alerted on Feb 10, the quantity of leaked oil was unknown. It is known only, that the ship’s fuel tank was somehow, damaged while she was sailing in stormy weather, with allegedly, ensuing oil leak. The tank was sealed, but the ship was ordered to remain on the “crime scene”, she’s looping back and forth since afternoon Feb 10. The ship’s operator, Wagenborg, has been ordered to provide a response plan, Wagenborg already contracted a Transport Canada-certified spill response company, according to the Canadian Coast Guard.
