Container ship on fire, abandoned, Chief Engineer died – Cebu anchorage

Fire erupted in the engine room of =anchored at Talisay anchorage, Cebu City, at around 0940 LT (UTC +8) Apr 17. The fire spread around and engulfed most part of the superstructure, crew was evacuated by CG and port service. Of 20 crew on board, one – 62-year-old Chief Engineer died, and three suffered burns. The ship was abandoned by 1000 LT. AIS is off since 1000 LT.
GENERAL ROMULO arrived at Cebu anchorage at around 0500 LT on Apr 17 from Bugo Philippines and was waiting for a berth.
