Conftrasporto: Freight Traffic down in Italy in 2023 up to 3%

The basic scenario developed by the association, on the other hand, assumes a decrease of 0.6%

Pandemic, war, energy crisis and more will slow down the freight transport sector in Italy in 2023, which will therefore experience a decline in volumes.

This is confirmed by the analyzes presented yesterday in Rome during the 7th Conftrasporto-Confcommercio International Forum. Shipping Italy reported

For next year in particular, the association’s research office has indicated two scenarios as probable. The basic one will present a reduction in the volume of goods by 0.6% and in passenger traffic by 1.2%).

In the worst case scenario, freight traffic will drop by 3%, while for passenger traffic the decline will be as much as 5.4%. A situation that, if it were to occur, would cause “a strong stress on the accounts of transport companies, which would fall by force among the sectors most at risk”.

Hence the request by Conftrasporto to the government for new appropriations to be accompanied by the immediate use of the additional 85 million envisaged in 2022 in favor of freight transport and the reuse of the residues of the resources allocated against the expensive LNG in “effective support measures” and draft for the sector “.

Still on the subject of road transport, the Confcommercio Research Department stressed that in the sector we are witnessing a “powerful reorganization” of companies, with a growth of more structured realities and a decline in individual realities.

In practice, the association found, if the Italian economy as a whole loses 10.2% of sole proprietorships, this shortfall rises to about one third for the road transport sector. At the same time, if joint-stock companies grow on average in Italy by 44.7%, this increase for the road transport and logistics sector is almost 58%.
