Cement carrier collided with fishing boat, 1 fisherman died

Cement carrier HEKINAN MARU collided with a 5-ton fishing boat off Cape Muroto, Kochi Prefecture, Pacific coast Honshu, at 0550 Tokyo time Nov 3, while en route from Shunan to Hekinan, Honshu. The fishing boat capsized, two fishermen on board were rescued, but one of them was recovered already dead. The ship interrupted her voyage and as of 1100 Tokyo time seemed to sail to Kochi, for investigation.

Added the report that: The wind in this area at that time blows from the North direction at force 2 Beaufort.

 

The vessel is currently at port KOCHI ANCH, JP and her next destination is KINUURA, JP

HEKINAN MARU (IMO: 9260586) is a Cement Carrier that was built in 2001 (20 years ago) and is sailing under the flag of Japan.
Its carrying capacity is 2300 t DWT and her current draught is reported to be 4.6 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 85 meters and her width is 14.5 meters.
