Brand new container ship collided with bulk carrier, heavily damaged, HK

Report emerged on a collision between a brand new container ship WAN HAI 288, and bulk carrier AMC NAVIGATOR, in Hong Kong waters. The collision took place on night Nov 17, both ships were underway, but WAN HAI 288 was restricted by an oncoming container ship on her port side, and couldn’t swing to port as it was required by circumstances, to avoid a collision. WAN HAI 288 reportedly, suffered heavy damages in the bow section, and probably, will be taken to a shipbuilding yard in Taiwan, for repairs. The understood bulk carrier was also seriously damaged since Nov 17 she’s moving in legs in rather a hectic manner in waters south of Hong Kong – Macau line. WAN HAI 288 as of evening Nov 20 is off Lamma island, status unclear, with 2 tugs at her side.
