Representatives of the Baltic hubs operating as part of the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster met in Gdynia. BALTIC ZEV INNOVATION HUB; BALTIC ICT & AI HUB; BALTIC GREENTECH HUB provide world-class support in all major areas set by Fit for 55 on a global level.

The hosts of the meeting were Jacek Milewski, financial director, member of the Crist board, and Marek Grzybowski, chairman of the board of the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster.

A cluster of HUBs support FIT For 55

The Baltic Sea and Space Cluster act as a hub cluster. The offer of zero-emission ships is supported by comprehensive solutions for power supply and service from shore as well as energy storage. The cluster provides legal and financial support. Science joins forces with business. Large companies support medium and small ones. We implement information technologies, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality.

BALTIC ZEV INNOVATION HUB, coordinated by CRIST, was represented by the directors Jacek Milewski and Bartłomiej Kopczewski. BALTIC ICT & AI Hub, which is coordinated by CADOR, was represented by the president, Grzegorz Kozłowski. BALTIC GREENTECH Hub, coordinated by the ASE Technology Group, was represented by President Dariusz Jachowicz and Jakub Roszkiewicz, head of contracting and purchasing from Biprograf, operating in the ASE Group.

– This is our next meeting in a group that has great innovative potential and already cooperates with each other and implements joint projects – emphasized the vice-president of the board of the Cluster, Capt. Alfred Naskręt, director of the Gdynia Maritime School.

– During the “FIT for 55” conference at the Maritime University of Gdynia, which took place yesterday, practically all topics related to the implementation of ecological solutions in maritime transport were discussed – said Mateusz Kowalewski, publisher of GospodarkaMorska.pl.

Blue economy must be green

– It is on the issues raised during the Gdynia conference “FIT for 55” that we want to focus our business projects on – said Marek Grzybowski, president of the management board of the Baltic Sea & Space Cluster. –

The activities of our hubs are aimed at the development of innovative and intelligent solutions in maritime industries, especially in shipyards, ports, and maritime transport, as well as in the broadly understood offshore business – underlines president Grzybowski.

– ASE Technology Group has both design and implementation potential in the field of technologies related to safety and solutions for industry and economic infrastructure. ASE has potential in both hydrogen technologies, as it has recently launched energy storage – informed President Dariusz Jachowicz.

In this area, several companies operating in the cluster have already obtained funds from the Galatea project, which is financed by the Horizon 2020 program. Several other companies have applied for competitions aimed at implementing innovative solutions using artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and other IT tools in marine and space industries.

– Our reality is digital twins – says Grzegorz Kozłowski, president of Cador Consulting and coordinator of the Baltic ICT & AI hub. It should be emphasized that Cador uses its tools and software not only for business purposes but also makes it available to students of the Gdańsk University of Technology and Gdynia Maritime University.

Legal,  Financial, and Mediation Support

During the discussion, it turned out that many companies cooperate with partners from China. Therefore, it was important to attend the meeting by Dr. Magdalena Łągiewska, director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Gdańsk.

The experience of Dr. Łągiewska in the field of arbitration and mediation as well as signing contracts with partners from China is particularly important. In the field of European law, Dr. Magdalena Konopacka is helping.

The companies receive legal support from the cluster from the BSSC legal and financial hub and the Baltic economic mediation center led by Barbara Matysiak.

An important activity of the BSSC Cluster is that the hubs and projects also include small and medium-sized companies that have a high innovation potential but do not yet operate on the international market.

The cluster supports small companies by helping them to obtain funds for the development of innovation and their positioning on the international market. By participating in international projects such as Galatea, ZEVInnovation, and Interreg. The BSSC cluster opens practically small and medium-sized paths to the world, sharing contacts and arranging money.

International Center for Chemical Safety

An important guest at the meeting was Ambassador Dr. Zdzisław Rapacki, representing the International Center for Chemical Safety (ICCSS). The participation of an ICCSS representative in the meeting of the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster hubs is support and continuation of the initiative initiated by Ambassador Krzysztof Paturej, President of ICCSS.

We are planning to create an international center in the Tri-City, which will integrate activities related to the disposal of chemical weapons dumped in the seas and oceans. After the conference organized by the portal GospodarkaMorska.pl, the Baltic Sea and Space Cluster decided to support the initiative.

After the presentation of companies and universities, the meeting of hubs turned into a series of face-to-face talks during which several common lines of action were developed. An important finding is that hubs can now offer comprehensive solutions on a global level on the domestic and international market in all major areas defined by FIT for 55.
