Peter Thomson, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations as well as the UNSG’s Special Envoy for the Ocean – Mr. Thomson leads UN’s advocacy and public outreach efforts inside and outside of the UN system, ensuring that the many positive outcomes of ‘The 2017 Ocean Conference’, including the over 1500 voluntary commitments, are analysed and implemented.

Moderator: Mark Cameron, COO Ardmore Shipping, will moderate the morning’s sessions from a ship owners perspective.

  • Hydra – Lessons learned on world first blue water liquid hydrogen-electric hybrid ferry: Ivan Østvik, Project Manager, Norled AS. In this showcase, Ivan will tell us about the design of the vessel, the choice to use liquid hydrogen, the alternative design route, and more.
  • World First Liquid Hydrogen Bunkering system: Steven Lua, CEO, Unitrove. Steven will speak about liquid and liquid-to-compressed-gas hydrogen bunkering systems.
  • The technology of a Liquid Hydrogen Fuelgas Supply System: Kristoffer Lorentsson, MAN Energy Solutions, Kristofer will explain the technology to store liquid hydrogen onboard a ship, and supply gaseous hydrogen at the correct temperature and pressure to the onboard consumers.

  • World’s first Fully Zero Emissions Hydrogen Sailing Cargo vessel: Danielle Doggett, CEO, SAILCARGO INC. Danielle will present designs for combined hydrogen and wind propulsion, demonstrating the implementation of a hydrogen fuel cell system in zero emission cargo ships.

Orkney College is delivering the World’s first government-recognized training course for crews of hydrogen-fuelled vessels, working closely with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Brent Perry is a globally operating and management executive with proven success in building high-performance teams in the energy storage sector.

Brent is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet in regards to lithium energy storage in marine applications. His 30-year history in commercial shipbuilding and deep knowledge of energy systems gives him a unique perspective on the hybrid and electric marine industry.

Brent has personally been involved in 90% of all large hybrid and electric ferry projects on the water today. From Ampere in Norway to Scandlines Benedikte, he has unsurpassed experience in the sector.

Brent is an experienced, engaging, and impassioned speaker, with hundreds of presentations completed, including a presentation about the future of low emissions commercial shipping at the UN Conference on Climate Change, COP21 in Paris, and COP23 in Bonn.

Mr. Perry resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, and enjoys sailing with his wife and three children.

Madadh MacLaine

Founder and Secretary-General

 

Madadh is a visionary social entrepreneur leading the drive towards zero-emission (ZE) shipping. Her extensive network of over a thousand connections engaged in the maritime energy transition covers shipowners and technology providers to policymakers and researchers.

Her background in ZE shipping began in 1999 with the founding of Fair Winds Trading Company’s sustainable development project in West Africa and designs for a ZE multi-access cargo vessel. She began working in the wider industry with the founding of the International Windship Association where she remained an active board member until 2020.

Madadh has a strong background in hydrogen, having represented  PEM electrolyzer manufacturer ITM Power as Business Development Manager in Shipping and Maritime. In 2019, she founded ZEM Tech ltd, an innovative system design, engineering, and project management consultancy focused on  ZE ship design and ZE marine fuel infrastructure and supply chains.
