Autonomous development in maritime encompasses all aspects of ship design and operations. In a new whitepaper focused on autonomous vessels, ABS discusses the efforts to develop regulations at the IMO, proposes goal-based requirements for fully autonomous vessels, and examines current issues in the implementation and operations of autonomous technology. This follows ABS’ previously published guidance on autonomous functions in the Guide for Autonomous and Remote-Control Functions.
