Ferries damaged in collision, Bakauheni, Sumatra

Ferry WIRA ARTHA collided with ferry JATRA II at Bakauheni harbor, Southern Sumatra, Sunda Strait, at around 1130 LT Dec 17, while maneuvering to berth in strong wind, on arrival from Merak Port, Java. The ship went out of control and was dragged along JATRA II, sustaining a number of damages, including a destroyed bridge wing. She’s to be taken off service scheduled to undergo repairs. JATRA II suffered damaged railings and starboard funnel. Both ships are deployed on Merak – Bakauheni service.
