Marine and offshore assets are at risk of outbreaks of infectious diseases that can impact not only the health and wellbeing of seafarers and passengers but also the normal operations. The ABS Guide for Mitigation of Infectious Disease Transmission On-Board Marine and Offshore Assets provides guidance to mitigate these outbreaks. Assets that meet the requirements may be given an optional notation, Infectious Disease Mitigation-Arrangements (IDM-A).
DSV Southern Star, owned and operated by Tasik Subsea, faced challenges due to its design constraints to mitigate the occurrence and transmission of infectious diseases. ABS worked closely with the designer, vessel owner, and operator to identify, review and meet the requirements of the ABS Guide, making the Southern Star the first to receive the IDM-A notation.
