Cruising : MSC To Implement New Onboard Air Cleaning System

Swan Hellenic Orders Third New Cruise Ship

The currently under construction MSC Seashore will feature advanced air sanitation technology, “Safe Air,” which reduces the risk of catching viruses, according to a press statement.

The ship will be the first cruise ship ever to have it.

“The “Safe Air’” next-generation sanitation system is based on the technology of UV-C lamps which are type C ultraviolet rays applied in combination with the ship’s air conditioning system, whereby airflow is radiated at source with a short wavelength light that hits organic particles and prevents the circulation of air pollutants such as viruses, bacteria, and mold,” said the company, in a statement.

This system was developed by designers and technicians at the Fincantieri shipyard in cooperation with the virology laboratory of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Trieste, Italy.

The MSC Seashore is expected to be delivered by Fincantieri in July 2021 in Monfalcone, Italy.

At 339 meters, she is the company’s longest ship, as well as the largest and most innovative ever built in Italy, according to MSC.

At another side wan Hellenic has ordered a third new luxury expedition cruise ship from Helsinki Shipyard, according to a press release.
The new ship will follow the deliveries of the Minerva, set for 2021, and a yet to-be-named sister ship in 2022. The third Swan Hellenic newbuild will debut at the end of 2022. ladyx.ch
The news comes on the company reporting a strong response to its start up plans.
“The new order is significant for Helsinki Shipyard, as it shows our customers’ confidence in our operations and is also a strong signal of the long-term nature of our operations,” said Carl-Gustaf Rotkirch, the shipyard’s CEO.
“In these times in the world, this is a very good signal, not only for Helsinki Shipyard but also for the Helsinki maritime industry and the whole country’s maritime cluster.”
The third vessel will have accommodations for 192 guests in 96 suites, making it bigger than the first two ships, which have capacity for 152 guests.
