WMU : Annual Graduation Ceremony of the Institute IMLI

Dr.Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of the World Maritime University (WMU) delivered a congratulatory address to graduands of the Interntional Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) during the 31st Annual Graduation Ceremony of the Institute held on 3 September 2020.

In her address, Dr. Doumbia-Henry expressed her great pride and satisfaction to see all present at the ceremony, in particular, Ms. Aderonke Aminat Adekeye and Ms. Oyindamola Temitope Banjoko, both from Nigeria, who are the first to graduate with a Master of Philosophy(M.Phil.) in International Maritime Law. The M.Phil. is a joint programme designed in partnership by the International Maritime Organization’s two sister institutions, IMLI and WMU.

Dr. Doumbia-Henry encouraged Ms. Adekeye and Ms. Banjoko to put into practice the training they have received, not only to ensure that they contribute immensely to build their national institutions but to also ensure global application of international instruments. As lawyers, she also enjoined them to uphold justice and the law and to be flag-bearers of bothIMLI and WMU.

In concluding, Dr. Doumbia-Henry encouraged all of the graduands to use the knowledge they have gained to be drivers of change in these challenging times and to build a strong maritime network, not only for promulgating national law but for the effective implementation of the same.
