Incidents : At least 11 dead as crane collapses at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Vizag India

At least 11 people killed and three injured in Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) at Sindia area in Visakhapatnam on Saturday noon when a huge new crane collapsed while the management was conducting a trial run to know its capacity.
The deceased were identified as supervisor Prasad, Ramana, Satya Raju of HSL Electrical section and Jagan of HSL maintenance department, technician Naga Devudu, P Bhaskar of Lead Engineers Company, technicians Venkata Rao, Siva and Chaitanya of Green Field Company and crane operator TV Ratnam. Officials are verifying the name of one of deceased persons.

The accident took place at around 12 noon. The new crane of a capacity of 70 tonnes and a height of 100 feet collapsed all of a sudden during the trial run.

Suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain has confessed about his role in the North East Delhi violence that broke out in February this year and admitted that he has incited people to unleash violence, according to an Interrogation Report (IR) by Delhi Police.

According to local reports, around 20 workers were working when the accident took place. While some managed to run for safety, at least 11 were crushed under the weight of the crane while some were injured. The injured have been shifted to the local hospitals.
Rescue operations are underway to retrieve the bodies from under the debris of the crane.
Hindustan Shipyard Limited, in Andhra Pradesh, India is a government undertaking, involved in shipbuilding, ship repairs, submarine construction and refits as well as design and construction of offshore and onshore structures.
